SUMMARY:WEBINAR #2 - Climate Resilience in Drainage: Culverts\, Bridges\, Fords\, and Road Surface Drainage
DESCRIPTION:OCTOBER 14th\, 10:00 AM –  \nAs climate change increases the frequency and intensity of rainfall\, this session covers engineering design principles for all aspects of road water management — from surface drainage to major hydraulic structures. Topics include culvert and bridge design for extreme flows\, fords and drifts under flash flooding\, and best practices for inspection\, maintenance\, and post-event repair. \nClimate Resilience in Drainage\nFrom road surface drainage to major hydraulic structures\, this complementary webinar will examine engineering principles and practical approaches for managing water and protecting road infrastructure under increasingly challenging rainfall and flooding conditions. \nThe discussion will cover: \n\nCulvert and bridge design for extreme flows\nFords and drifts under flash-flood conditions\nRoad surface drainage and water management\nInspection and maintenance of drainage infrastructure\nPost-event assessment and repair\nEngineering approaches to improve road resilience under changing rainfall conditions\n\nSPEAKERS: \nAnnabelle Tungol\, Founder & CEO\, AGV-ARTEA GREEN VENTURES PTY LTD \nWith more than two decades of experience in environmental management\, compliance and independent assurance\, Annabelle Tungol has worked extensively on major infrastructure and transport projects in Australia. Her expertise also includes flood intelligence and resilient infrastructure\, including the development of the Hydro Intelligence System (HIS) through Artea Green Ventures. \nDr. David Jones\, Director\, DJones Consult & Emeritus Research Engineer\, Uc Pavement Research Center \nDr. David Jones brings extensive research and engineering experience from the UC Pavement Research Center\, where he worked on climate-resilient road and airfield design\, pavement recycling\, recycled materials and pavement investigations. He continues to provide specialist consultancy in cold pavement recycling and low-volume road engineering. \nAlex Campbell\, Independent Consultant — Moderator \nWith more than two decades of international experience across Africa\, the Caribbean\, the Middle East and Asia-Pacific\, Alex Campbell has worked on strategic road\, bridge and transport corridor projects in challenging environments. His expertise includes drainage and flood resilience design\, geotechnical and pavement engineering\, and the use of data analytics and remote sensing to improve infrastructure performance. \nWhy Drainage Matters for Road Resilience\nExtreme rainfall can have consequences far beyond temporary flooding. Inadequate drainage can contribute to pavement deterioration\, erosion\, scour\, embankment damage and the disruption of critical road connections. \nBuilding more resilient roads therefore requires a comprehensive approach to how water is managed before\, during and after extreme events. \nThis webinar will bring together perspectives from road engineering\, flood intelligence\, environmental assurance and pavement research to explore practical solutions for better water management and more resilient road infrastructure. \nPart of the Roads to Resilience Webinar Series: \nA five-session webinar series co-hosted by AnyWay Solutions with the World Bank and the International Road Federation (IRF Global)\, offering practical guidance on building climate resilience into road infrastructure in developing countries. The series spans the full spectrum of resilience practice\, from policy and economics through drainage\, slope stability\, materials\, data\, and rehabilitation.
